12-year-old Davey is in that precarious space between boyhood and manhood, being but no longer wanting to be young.  Moving with his troubled mother to Berkeley, California, in the summer after his sixth grade year, he deals with a difficult home life, making friends in a new town, his first interest in girls, missing his father, and a group of older bullies.  It is Davey’s last summer of being truly young.
